It appears we may be in for an even longer long-term drought.
Residents living in areas struck by drought look forward to the end of the year, which usually brings rain. This year hasn’t offered much rain however, so residents must continue to meet water usage limits set by their respective cities.
So what do we do about a long-term drought?
There were no changes in the weekly percentage of drought in California: 92 percent of the state is in severe drought, 71 percent is in extreme and 46 percent is in exceptional drought. The Drought Monitor intensity levels are Abnormally Dry, Moderate, Severe, Extreme and Exceptional Drought. In the Pacific Northwest, Oregon is 100 percent in severe drought and Washington is 90 percent in severe drought. Extreme drought covers 67 percent of Oregon and nearly 68 percent of Washington.
Many residents have installed artificial grass to counter the ongoing drought and increasing cost of maintaining their lawn, especially now that some states have passed laws that make it illegal to ban artificial grass.
